About babynutrition.be
Who are we?
The Belgian federation for infant and young child nutrition, in abbreviated form “babynutrition.be”, represents food business operators placing foods and food ingredients specifically tailored for infants and young children aged 0-3 years, also called “baby food”, on the Belgian market.
Furthermore, babynutrition.be is a valued member of the European federation SNE, Specialised Nutrition Europe.
Our mission
babynutrition.be is the spokesperson of the sector and its member companies. babynutrition.be discusses with the Belgian authorities, media, governmental organisations, other federations or associations like health care professionals or consumer organisations, as well as NGOs active in the infant and young child sector.
Our priorities
An optimal nutrition in the early childhood is essential for growth, health and development of infants and young children.
babynutrition.be fully supports the principles of the World Health Organisation and the advice from Belgian childhood associations such as ONE, Office de la Naissance et de l’Enfance, and Kind en Gezin, that breastfeeding provides the best source of nutrition for a baby.
We focus on:
- Informing our members about the current applicable regulatory framework and on-going developments;
Our sector is indeed one of the most strictly regulated sectors in the European Union, with legislation covering food safety, nutritional composition, labelling and advertising, among other areas. European and national legislation currently lays down rules for infant formulae, follow-on-formulae, processed cereal-based products, baby foods, foods for special medical purposes and growing-up milk. - Exchanging knowledge with policy makers;
- Engaging in a pro-active dialogue with all relevant stakeholders.
